Welcome to VOOM Foundation. VOOM Foundation medical missions are 100% volunteer. We welcome talented volunteers willing to train and educate and train local medical professionals with a goal of sustainable programming. We do not pay medical staff to attend medical missions.
General Requirements for Medical Volunteers
Non-Medical Volunteers
Cost Requirement - VOOM Foundation asks each medical staff member to cover the cost of the following:
Vaccinations. - It is recommended you visit your international travel physician to get list of recommended vaccinations and well check. Below is a list of vaccinations recommended by VOOM Foundation:

IRS Tax Deductions
The IRS allows you to claim a charitable contribution deduction for your personal travel expenses (including airfare, lodging, and meals). VOOM Foundation will send you a receipt for all tax-deductible expenses incurred. Any additional expenses for leisure activities such as sightseeing etc.… cannot be deducted.
Safety & Security - VOOM Foundation will provide 24-hour security during our stay in Nigeria. Although we do not anticipate a hostile environment, we will travel with security at all times. VOOM will enroll everyone into the Smart Traveler Program that will contact the local embassy of our presence in Nigeria. https://step.state.gov/STEP/Index.aspx. Those who are interested can visit US Passport & International Travel for information on International travel safety.
Insurance Optional - Travel Insurance can be purchased individually at www.volunteercard.com.

General Requirements for Medical Volunteers
- Two years of relevant professional experience
- Physicians – 2 years’ experience preferred
- Nurses – 3 years’ professional experience/ICU preferred
- Experience teaching/training
- Passport – you will need a current passport that is valid within 6 months of the date of your trip.
- VISA Entry – You will need an entry VISA into the country. Instruction on how to apply for entry VISA into Nigeria will be discussed during medical staff conference calls.
- Vaccines:
- Covid vaccine – REQUIRED - All medical volunteers must be Covid Vaccinated.
- Yellow-fever vaccine –RECOMMENDED - VOOM Foundation recommends yellow fever vaccine. To inquire on how to get vaccinated, visit with your hospital or go to: https://www.passporthealthusa.com/vaccinations/yellow-fever/
- Malaria – RECOMMENDED - Malaria pills during the trip are highly recommended.
- Ability to work in diverse environments and adapt to occasional unexpected circumstances
- Commitment to support VOOM Foundation mission and goals
Non-Medical Volunteers
- All non-medical volunteers must receive approval before joining a mission
- Non-medical volunteers are required to raise/pay $3,500 before acceptance to the mission. Medical volunteers and mission goals are given first priority.

- Airline Ticket
- Passport/VISA into Nigeria
