MISSION WORK
Our first VOOM Foundation Medical Mission took place in May 2011 at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu. This primarily educational mission involved a team of eight volunteers and established a networking relationship between the VOOM Foundation and Nigerian medical practitioners, laying the groundwork for future clinical missions.
Since then, VOOM has expanded its medical mission teams globally, incorporating members from the United Kingdom and Canada, and launching VOOM/Sweden to enhance our presence and impact. During these missions, our medical volunteers do more than just perform heart surgeries; they engage in various activities throughout their two-week stay to broaden patient reach and align with our mission of serving indigent patients in need.

Mission scholarshipsThe VOOM Foundation's Patient Open-Heart Scholarship Program provides life-saving heart surgery to children and adults in Nigeria who otherwise would not have access to critical care. These scholarships cover costs associated to the procedure, including hospitalization, diagnostics, and post-operative care. But the need far exceeds the resources currently available. We rely on the generosity of donors and compassionate individuals who are willing to get involved—whether through financial support, volunteering, or spreading awareness. Every donation brings us one step closer to saving another life. |
MEDICAL SUPPLIES & EQUIPMENTMedical supplies and equipment are crucial to the VOOM Foundation’s surgical and outreach efforts. With support from industry partners, the foundation offers surgeries at no cost or at subsidized rates, particularly significant in Nigeria, where many struggle with the high cost of healthcare. Through its programs, VOOM provides donated medical supplies, equipment, and medications at no charge, effectively reaching the targeted patient population and removing the financial burden from the patient.

EDUCATION & TRAININGThe Ann Bluejack Healthcare Advancement Education Program has significantly advanced the delivery of healthcare. Since its establishment in 2011, the VOOM Foundation has provided over 90,000 hours of personalized, in-country training to healthcare professionals. In 2024, VOOM expanded its educational offerings by launching an online training program in collaboration with the University of Maryland Medical Center, marking the introduction of its first series of online courses. Currently, VOOM is delivering virtual training across all regions of Nigeria, ensuring that essential healthcare education is accessible to a wider audience. |
HEALTH FAIRTo expand our outreach, the VOOM Foundation organizes health fairs in rural areas during each mission. These events provide both adult and pediatric patients with access to well-checks, and those requiring further diagnostics are referred to partner hospitals for comprehensive examinations. Free screenings for diabetes and hypertension are conducted, alongside eye examinations where hundreds of glasses are distributed. Additionally, the foundation dispenses essential medications, including antibiotics, pain relievers, and treatments for diabetes, malaria, and parasites, free of charge. Fun activities for children ensure a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

PATIENT RELEASEVOOM Foundation medical volunteers visit indigent patients in hospital wards who cannot afford their bills. In Nigeria, patients unable to pay are required to remain in the hospital until their debts are settled. Volunteers assess patients’ conditions to determine if discharge is feasible. If so, medical staff and the VOOM Foundation cover the patient’s balance, enabling their return home to recover in the care of their families.
